We get to know our partner clubs, understand the importance of the colours, the design, the logos, everything.
Your kit should be a reflection of your club's identity, and not a selection of the closest match to your club colours from a generic list.
The late 90s and early 00s, an era where fashion and football where perfectly aligned.
Some of the most iconic players played in an evolving period that yielded some of the most attractive football, all performed in front of a global audience who would tune in and fully engage in the match, the culture, the competitiveness.
Kits were generally manufactured for the clubs and nations, long before the days of customer kits. They had to get the kit right as it would be showcased for the next two years.
Back then, kits weren’t commodities. They were carefully crafted, purposeful, and rare.
Third kit? Cup kit? Commemorative kit? Not a chance! Two kits, two seasons. Look good or suffer the pain of being erased from the memory of this beautiful era.
What was once two kits every two years, is now SIX. And don’t even get me started on wearing next season’s kit on the final home game of the season!
The pressure was real. The creativity was unmatched.
These kits defined an era, matched up with some of the most iconic footballers we were getting to see more of. We weren’t seeing “Shorts”, “Threads” and “Reels”, we were tuned in to our modestly, but at the time seemingly expensive, subscriptions to Sky Sports. ITV brought us all we ever needed, one night of Champions League football followed by a highlights show we’d watch late at night.
On a weekend we had Channel 4 and then Eurosport for the final few seasons before Italian football made way for supremacy from England and Spain, nonetheless, when the Italian teams re-emerged onto our screens for occasional midweek encounters, we looked on with awe.
Signature looks all over the continent in the shape of Ajax, Celtic and, Porto. Supporting acts as our attention turned to the Galacticos with their unique stencil font numbering, or Ronaldinho’s poke against Chelsea wearing one of the most gorgeous away kits of all time.
The current turnover of kits at pro level is too high. Preying on supporter loyalty to encourage more shirt purchasing with shorter timelines between launches. Staggered launches of home, away and now third kits.
The solution? Kits that you fall in love with. If you love your kit, you wont be eagerly awaiting the latest one or an alternative third kit, or cup edition kit.
